Joshua J. Smith served as Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, overseeing 122 facilities, six regional offices, two staff training centers, and 22 residential reentry offices. He led a workforce of 36,000 and was responsible for the care and custody of 156,000 inmates. Sworn in on June 9, 2025, he brought a unique perspective shaped by personal transformation and a strong commitment to staff wellness.
